Visit to Ukraine
On October 5, 2009, there was the meeting of representatives of the Ministry of Ukraine of Emergencies and Affairs of Population Protection from the Consequences of Chernobyl Catastrophe, Croatian Mine Action Centre and Cluster for Humanitarian Demining held in Kiev, Ukraine. Croatian delegation members were Mr. Oto Jungwirth, director of the Croatian Mine Action Centre, Mr. Tomislav Ban, head of QA and QC Department, Mr. Nikola Pavković, director of Cluster for Humanitarian Demining, Mr. Slavko Majetić, owner and director of the company DOK-ING Ltd. and co-ordinator Mr. Željko Granatir. The hosts i.e. representatives of the Ministry were Mr. V.M. Barančuk, Deputy Minister, Mr. M.B. Blotskih, Deputy Minister, Mr. G.B. Marčenko, director of Administration for Rescue Team Management, Mr. O.M. Ovdijenko, head of Administration for International Co-operation, Mr. O.V. Bondar, head of Department for Organization of Deminer Works, Destruction and Removal of Ammunition, Mr. S.B. Lavrinenko, head of DP Mobil Rescue Centre and Mr. M.L. Kravčuk, head of the First Specialized Centre for Urgent Reactions of the Operative and Rescue Service of Civil Protection.
During the meeting, the hosts held a presentation on the purpose, structure and basic tasks of the Ministry and organization of explosive ordinance destruction on the territory of Ukraine. There was also the possibility of co-operation in the field of demining and removal of explosive ordinances discussed. At the end, there was the Protocol on Co-operation between the Croatian Mine Action Centre and the Ministry of Ukraine of Emergencies and Affairs of Population Protection from the Consequences of Chernobyl Catastrophe signed.
Members of the Croatian delegation attended the international seminar ‘’Fire Management on Terrain Contaminated by Radioactivity, Unexploded Ordnance and Land Mines’’ held from 6 to 8 October. The seminar attendants were particularly interested two presentations held on behalf of the Cluster for Humanitarian Demining by Mr. Oto Jungwirth and S. Majetić.
