Education for High School Graduates
On February 3, 2010, in Petrinja's gymnasium, there was a program of mine risk education held for two classes of high school graduates. After a long break, mine risk education is held for senior class students, especially in Petrinja. The principals of high-schools of Petrinja expressed an interest in such education emphasizing the mine suspected areas around the Town of Petrinja. To conclude, parallel with regular education of elementary schools, especially first-grade students, there will be several mine risk educations held in high schools.
In the first part of education, Mr. Mirko Ivanušić, deputy director of the Croatian Mine Action Centre informed the students about mine action in the Republic of Croatia. He warned the students about the distribution of mines, types of mines, procedure in case of running into a mine. The representative of Red Cross, Mr. Dražen Vučić, spoke of concrete mine suspected area around Petrinja, especially Kotar šuma and zone along the river Kupa. At the end, both lecturers informed the high school graduates about CROMAC MISportal and its features.
The topic seemed to have been very interesting to the students and many of them were surprised by the extent of mine problem in their surroundings and wider. They asked many relevant questions and expressed understanding for the mine action in the Republic of Croatia.
