Visit to the Victims of Mine Incident in Dabar

Yesterday, July 13, 2010, employees of the Centre for Social Welfare from Otočac and Senj headed by the head of Otočac regional office Mrs. Biserka Rupčić and CROMAC deputy director Mr. Mirko Ivanušić, visited the victims of a recent mine incident in Dabar. They visited the two persons who suffered minor bodily injuries from Dabar and Kutarevo and a wife of a killed person in the Mother’s Home in Krasno.The man who suffered major bodily injuries, brother of the one with minor bodily injuries, is currently receiving intensive medical care in the hospital on Sušak in Rijeka. According to family members, post operative process and general status of the patient are satisfying, but he is having a long postoperative treatment ahead of him.
This visit resulted from the conclusions of the meeting of the Coordination held in the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. According to the conclusions, it was agreed to organize ‘’ad hoc’’ a team of experts from the Centre for Social Welfare that would, in case of amine incident’’ go and visit the casualties and provide them with psychosocial assistance, inform them about their rights and possibilities and keep in contact for other forms of assistance purposes, such as one-time pecuniary aid the wife of a killed person is entitled to. In order to better understand their rights, the casualties were given the brochure ‘’Rights and possibilities’’. Next week, the Mine Aid association shall visit the families of mine victims, and two association members who are also the mine victims, shall share their experiences with the casualties. CROMAC deputy director took the chance to check the marking status on the area of Dabar and established the situation to be very good. He advised everybody once again not to enter the territory behind the mine warning signs.
