Use of Bees in Humanitarian Demining

The Centre for Testing, Development and Training Ltd. informed today the public about the research they have been implementing which refers to the use of bees in humanitarian demining. The event was organized at Cerovac test site near Karlovac.
The research takes place as part of the EU funded project TIRAMISU which stands for Toolbox Implementation for Removal of Antipersonnel Mines, Submunitions and UXO. The project worth 14,9 million EUR started on January 1, 2012 and is planned to last four years. CROMAC-CTDT is the member of the consortium of 26 research centres and universities from eleven countries. The joint idea is to develop a set of mine action tools to be used in survey and mine clearance operations but also mine risk education activities. The interesting work with bees was presented by professor Nikola Kezić, Ph.D., head of the team which does the research on the use of bees in humanitarian demining.
