Special Meeting of the Convention on Cluster Munitions Coordination Committee, Geneva


On March 4, 2015, the director of the Office for Mine Action Mrs. Dijana Pletina, PhD. has met with the minister for foreign affairs of Costa Rica, a current Convention presiding country, Mr. Manuel Gonzlez Sanz who attended the meeting in his capacity as head of the state delegation. They discussed preparations for the First Review Conference of the Convention on Cluster Munitions, which will be held from 7th to 11th of September this year, under the high chairmanship of the Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovi.

Director of the Office recalled that the Republic of Croatia, future presiding country of the Convention, is the only EU member state whose territory is contaminated with cluster munitions and which is faced with all the negative humanitarian and economic-developmental consequences of this problem.

Also, Mrs. Pletina said that the Republic of Croatia is a state that clearing of explosive remnants of war funds mainly from the State Budget and thus is natural fit for the role of mediator between the other, mines and cluster munitions-contaminated states on the one hand and donor countries on the other hand.
