The successful completion of mine clearance operations financed by the grant of the Principality of Monaco


In the area of Kotar forest in Sisak-moslavina county all mine clearance operations, funded through a Memorandum of Understanding signed in December 2013 with the Principality of Monaco for the period 2013-2015, were completed.
It was a continuation of cooperation between the Principality of Monaco and the Republic of Croatia, which begun in 2000. due to the commitment of the Principality of Monaco and the Republic of Croatia to the implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction, which both countries have ratified in the 1998. also with the Convention on Cluster Munitions.
Previous Memoranda of Understanding with the Principality of Monaco were realized in 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2009, and followed Croatian strategic objective - removal of mine danger from the area of protected nature (Kopački rit, Velebit, Paklenica).
With the latest memorandum CROMAC has received a donation of 225,000 euros, and the entire amount was aimed at financing demining works of Kotar forest in Mošćenica settlement, near Petrinja town.
Considering the unfortunate statistics, which capture the suffering of as many as 27 people, of whom 12 were fatalities, 8 heavy and 7 persons lightly injured in the area of Kotar forest since the end of the Homeland War, Croatian Mine Action Centre has converged almost all of the received donations, as the strategic goal to systematically remove mine danger from the defined area.

During 2014 and 2015, 242,529 square meters of suspected hazardous area of Kotar forest were demined with the funds donated by the Principality of Monaco.

The realization of four projects, which according to public tenders were performed by the company ZELENI KVADRAT d.o.o. Zagreb, FOSSIO d.o.o. Požega and DIZ EKO d.o.o. Zagreb, resulted, in total, with 98 pieces of explosive ordnance found and destroyed, with commonly PMR-2A, PMA-2 and PMA-3 types of mines and 3 different types of UXO identified.

Final demining project financed by the donations of the Principality of Monaco was successfully completed on May 6th, 2015.
