The mine problem in Vukovar-Srijem County presents a development issue, serious impediment for reconstruction of agricultural production and infrastructure, economy development and free movement of people. All these issues are even more emphasized with the safety problem that mine danger represents for the inhabitants of these areas, as well as for people travelling through.

Realization of this project is a precondition for safety, development and reconstruction of agricultural production as well as the revitalization of drainage system and flood prevention.

Since 1998 European union financially supported demining process in Croatia with more than 34 billion euro and will continue to help through pre-accession, structural and cohesion fund.
