Croatian Mine Action Centre and all members of mine action community mark this year's day of remembrance for the victims of Vukovar because the consequences of the war in the form of the mine problem in Vukovar Srijem County are entirely eliminated.

Solving the mine problem in the whole area of Vukovar - Srijem County is contained, as a strategic objective, in the Plan of humanitarian demining, which was implemented on November 11, 2015.

Initial ground of mine suspected areas of Vukovar - Srijem County dating from 1996 was defined by UNMAC and was 1,307 km2. Condition of mine suspected areas after an overview of the completion of demining activities in the period from 1996 to 2005, was 107.2 km2 or 4.4% of county's total area, and was marked with 783 mine warning signs. The mine suspected area included 19 cities and municipalities, that is 63.3% of the total number of cities and municipalities of the county.

During the demining activities there were total of 16,440 pieces of mines, of which 7,281 anti-personnel mines and 9,159 pieces of anti-tank mines and 72,586 pieces of unexploded ordinance found and destroyed.

Demining activities in Vukovar-Srijem County were financed by the funds from the State budget, legal entities and government bodies (investors), the World Bank and a large number of foreign and local donors. In the demining of Vukovar-Srijem County 819 milion HRK were invested. State budget participated with 53% in the total funds for demining, followed by a legal entity, that is the investors who participated with 20%, the World Bank with 15% and donors with a share of 12%.

In the area of Vukovar-Srijem County, in the period from 1991 to 2015, 234 people were injured by mines and unexploded ordinances, of which 63 were fatal.
