The CEO of the Humanitarian Organization "Roots of Peace" Heidi Kuhn Accompanied by Diane Baker Visited the Demining Worksite in Nova Drenčina
As part of the visit organized by the Office of the president Mr. Stjepan Mesić, on Monday, October 12, 2007, the American humanitarian Mrs. Heidi Kuhn, the founder of the humanitarian organization ''Roots of Peace'' accompanied by the American actress Mrs. Diane Baker and the Advisor for Social and Humanitarian Affairs to the Office of the president of the Republic of Croatia Mr. Borislav Vučković.
The organization ‘’Roots of Peace’’ became active on the territory of Croatia for the first time in 1999 and has so far raised funds for demining of ca. 500.000 m² of mined vineyards on the area of Ilok, Karlovac, Dragalić, Čista Velika and Čista Mala through their humanitarian action entitled ‘’Mines to Vines’’. Californian vintner of the Croatian origin Mr. Mike Grgić also joined their action.
On behalf of CROMAC, deputy director Mr. Mirko Ivanušić thanked for the donations made so far and together with the guests visited the demining worksite in Nova Drenčina where demining operations are currently conducted by the company Enigma Ltd. from Glina. After that, Mrs. Kuhn and Mrs. Baker went to visit the towns of Karlovac and Vukovar.
Mrs. Kuhn and Mrs. Baker are planning a new humanitarian action for demining of orchards, especially for the production of apples where they would try to link the demining of orchards to the city of New York called ‘’The Big Apple’’.
