Ladies and gentlemen, dear readers,

Allow me to start by informing you that ten days ago, the suspected hazardous area (SHA) in the Republic of Croatia finally dropped below 700 square kilometres. To be more precise, on October 31, 2012, the SHA of the Republic of Croatia totalled 695,7 square kilometres. This is a result of intensified demining activities on demining worksites during the fall. On average, we had 22 to 24 active demining worksites thanks to favourable weather conditions and conduct of operations without any problems and delays.
Thanks to the efforts of the Government Office for Mine Action headed by the director Mrs. Dijana Pleština, Ph.D., we are very satisfied with the last month's donor activities. Besides donation of the FR Germany, humanitarian action of the Embassy of France to the Republic of Croatia and the company ''Peugeot'', the American Chamber of Commerce also organized the traditional ''Dinner for Safe Step'' by which they raised funds for demining the territory of the Šibenik-Knin County.
Until the next issue,
Sincerely,
Miljenko Vahtarić
Acting Director
CROMAC
